I just returned from a resort vacation. This location, like so many other warm resort locations, is in the middle of desperate poverty. It is pretty jarring, to be in such luxury while a mile a way folks are living in very desperate conditions. Although I'm really not naive about how the world works, it is still depressing to see.

It's Christmas time now. All is so busy, and at the same time, kind of numb. Slow down a bit, I tell myself, this is not when business has to get done, or when all the perfect gifts have to be bought. This season is about the birth of a bady, a very special baby, not malls. |
