Collarspace is an online community comprised of persons who share an interest in romantic explorations known as BDSM. If you're new to our community we encourage you to learn about us and interactions which add fun, excitement and intimacy to lives and relationships around the world. In this regard please feel free to browse some of the profiles and journals on the website to get a sense of what members of the BDSM community are thinking, feeling and experiencing.
While you're here we'd like to mention two important concepts:
SSC - Safe, Sane, and Consensual
SSC is our cornerstone principle and it stands for Safe, Sane, and Consensual. When a person makes the choice to engage in activities related to BDSM with another person they're extending trust to that person just as one does when choosing to be a passenger in a car while another person is driving. In both cases the person behind the wheel is responsibile for keeping the other person safe. As with all aspects of life it's wise to undertake BDSM explorations in a measured manner. To be consensual BDSM activities must occur with the full consent of all persons involved in them.
Tolerance
Members of our community hail from many different cultures and backgrounds, each contributing their unique perspectives and experiences. Your path may lie in a different direction than another person but wherever your travels take you we encourage you to embrace tolerance.
First Steps
As you're getting your bearings on Collarspace here are some steps we recommend you consider:
Create an Account
Collarspace operates somewhat differently from many other social/dating websites in that you can have an account with or without a public profile. Creating an account is simple, just click on the "Join our Community" button on the left-hand side of the homepage and supply the appropriate information. Once created your account will allow you to interact with other users in our chatrooms, and will make available to you a number of other features for which an account is necessary.
Create a Profile
If you decide that you're ready to start interacting with other members of the community that would be the time to create a profile. You can place as little or as much information in your profile as you'd like and a profile will as well afford you ability to journal about your explorations and experiences.
Chatrooms
Our IRC (text) and video chatrooms provide a venue for members of the community to interact with each other in real-time. If at any time you need assistance while you're in the chatrooms feel free to seek out the assistance of a moderator.

Information is provided throughout the website to assist you in staying safe online. You will also find safety information on the resources tab. We encourage you to take a few minutes to review this information.
