For myself BDSM is a calling rather than a kink. My philosophy being "By fucking the mind the body will follow".
I'm 100% Dominant yet not a sadist. The tools I use whether pleasure, pain or a quiet word are for nothing more than changing my subs state of mind in order to help them realise they can rise above anything that life throws at them.
Building a D/s relationship takes time, trust and communication, but once these building blocks are in place, a Dom will be able to take their sub to and beyond their perceived limits and help them to grow as a person. This growth is not only in the scene, but also in the vanilla world that we all have to deal with on a day to day basis.
