The point is that some of what happens in any BDSM relationship is unique to that specific couple and develops naturally, spontaneously, and organically as those two happen upon particular nuances that work for them. That is a very enjoyable process of discovery.
I can accommodate a submissive who is quite far along the spectrum of masochism as well as a sub who is less concerned with pain than with a range of other power exchange dynamics. Discipline can take many different s and this can develop organically, but also with intention and planning.
I am a caring person and I like to explore the movement between roughness and sensitivity. In regards to the latter, obedience, discipline, required demonstrations of devotion, spanking, even harsher punishments, etc. can all be part of our interaction. But developing trust and closeness are important.
Subs who adopt an intentionally bratty persona do not appeal to me and bratty-ness is not needed in order to get attention. I prefer to cultivate a genuine sense of closeness and intimacy into which BDSM dynamics play a central role. Discipline and other in-scene activities will occur regardless.
