Do subtleties with regards to how one is addressed in public mean anything? Call me over analtical, but when we live in a world of social media drama (FB, twitter), gen Y'ers with a ridiculous perspective of the world (and baffling sense of entitlement), journalists who have become nothing more than character bashers, and important news that gets bypassed in order to cover what pair of shoes the Kardashians are wearing, you tend to be hyper sensitive to a throw back in manners.

So I was at the checkout line at the grocery store, having picked up some things to re-stock the bachelor fridge (read: beer, milk, hamburger patties and gatorade), and the lady who was probably 20 something was polite, said sir or ma'am a couple of times, and when I said thanks have a good day and the response was "thanks you too, sir" it made me stop and ponder for a second if that person is maybe one of us.  Perhaps it's just good manners, but as I wrote in the first paragraph, it's not something you expect to hear much in public these days so when it happens I couldn't help but wonder...
