A Rant about Eowyn: I love LotR very much. One of my favorite and yet least favorite characters is Eowyn. Her father was the brother of a king. Her father passed and she was raised by her uncle. All her life she rebelled against her "feminine duties" seeing them as lesser and boring.  In a siege, she is told to go in the caves with the rest of the women and children to calm them. She does not understand the importance of the role she was given as a Lady of Rohan and that as one of the only heirs left, she needed to be kept safe. If her father and brother were to fall in battle she would be Queen. She only wanted to throw herself into the men's world of battle and blood. She shirked her duties to protect her people through valorous service and works.  I never understood why she did not understand. Her roles as a female were just as necessary as the men's knightly roles! She was already doing important work and her disregard for female jobs and submission was far more insulting than the men giving her that work. I love how strong Eowyn is as a character. She is generally strong, demure, and hard working. i merely wish that she would have understood and valued herself as the true pillar she was in her society.

When I was a young teenager I became a sub to a young adult man. He had no job, no license, and had not finished college. I stayed with him for five years. When I was young it was because I was amazed an older man was interested in me and when I was older it was because I loved him. I failed high school, and missed college.
