To me, submission is not about immediately taking control of your life, dictating the clothes you wear and demanding that you conduct yourself a certain way. Instead, its a bond based on love, trust and confidence that inspires you to chose to entrust a certain amount of control over you and your life. I also do not think that submission is the opposite of independence. You can maintain your independence in many areas of your life and still be a submissive. The key is to find the level of submission that satisfies us both. In your job, for examply, you will likely have to maintain a fair amount of independence since I can't very well order you to report to work nude since you've lost your clothing privileges for a week.
