Problem is, the husband is not quite dark enough.

I'm apt to combust in a submissive frenzy.
I need some semblance of D/s in my life.
He can't quite mind fuck me as needed.

He can slap me around well.

He may get it at some point but I'm an impatient imp, hence, my pathetic profiling.

Perhaps the cruelest aspect of BDSM is knowing your nature and being unable to act on it.
