I love ropes...
When I was young, even before my teenage years... and during my teenage years I was obsessed with ropes. I would study knots, rigging and I would practice and practice and practice. I would take a small rope with me everywhere... It went to bed with me...
Only vague memories as a scout tying up others... (yes I spent many years blocking out my childhood memories because I thought they were wrong)
Rigging in trees was great fun... I would build Tyrolean Traverses or flying foxes in trees...
We lashed things together to build stuff out of bamboo and hemp.
Abseiling, caving and rockclimbing were natural progressions.

I love climbing... When I was young it was trees, latter it was up, down and through caves... Then finally climbing cliffs arrived into my life. For many years that was my passion. I chose to live near cliffs to climb. I love the adrenaline rush rock climbing gave me. Getting up so far off the ground. Putting the thoughts of death or injury from falling aside. Having to concentrate so intensely that nothing else in my life mattered.. Just getting to the top safely... Move after physical move... I could concentrate on my fitness, strength and stamina. My balance and attention to details had to be spot on.... Each climb was a problem to solve, a puzzle to work out.... You have to figure out and plan each move in sequence to get to the top. And when you get to the top your on such a high. The rewards from success are immense.
