I have many years experience as a Dom and enjoy pushing a sub to move past her fears or perceived limits once trust has been established. I am naturally dominant which means I do not need to shout or wear leather to get my point across. I prefer to maintain my calm and let my paddle or open palms do the talking if a sub gets out of line. But I do not want a masochist who will act up just to get punished. I do not really believe that strict limits should be necessary but I will consider yours so long as they are not too numerous or ridiculous.
