About newsslave4me
To all of you who read my nick as a concatenation of "new slave for me": read again. To those who read it as "news slave for me": welcome.
No, this is not my main profile. Needless to ask what that one is, I will not tell you unless I find the work you do for me in this one good enough to do so. "What work?" you ask. Well, let me explain:
I seek a news-slave. I have been frustrated for a long time now by the flood of news and information that is out there, in newspapers, on the radio, on tv, on the net. Most of it is unnecessary and very often badly written. So I have given up on wading through it day after day just keep myself informed on what is happening in the world. Plus - do I really need to know that a bus with 38 people on board was victim to a landslide somewhere in India?
Unfortunately, by choosing to do this, I am also missing out on the important things that are happening in Europe and all over the world. And this is where you come in, dear reader: I want YOU to keep ME informed on what is happening in the world.
How will this work?
Whenever you feel like it (which I hope will come to be often), you will send me one or more snippets of news you find interesting and you think I might find interesting (more about me below). One or two sentences suffice, but please make them so that I am able to understand from them what you are talking about. "VVD beats PvdA by 1" is not good enough, "The pro-business VDD party took the lead by 1 seat over the labour party in the Dutch elections yesterday" is. Even better would be "The pro-business VDD took the lead by 1 seat over the labour party in the Dutch elections yesterday. Both parties have 31 resp. 30 of the 150 parliamentary seats now and will have to look for a third party (democrats or green) to form a coalition government."
Please understand that it is not purely the news that interests me, it is especially your take on it, and what you have to say about it. Why do you think it worth sending me, what does it do to your world view etc. If what you wrote me interests me more than just as a headline, I might come back to you and ask for more details or a source. I will certainly ask for your take on it, and expect you to be able to give me an opinion, or more background. If what you write me didn't interest me, I might come back to you and tell you why not. I might also block you immediately. If what you wrote interested me, but maybe not enough to ask for more, you'll get at least a thank you. I'm polite, after all.
Clear so far? Ok - then here's a bit about me, so that you have a better idea what might interest me:
I am intelligent, so do me the courtesy of treating me as such. I live somewhere on the European contintent, in a country that is part of the EU. Therefore any news about Europe and the countries in it interest me more than say local californian ones. But of course, anything IMPORTANT happening in the world at large should always come first. I am a businesswoman, so I need news on anything likely to impact the business world and economy in general. I am a parent, so I need news on what my children's future is likely to look like, and what state the world that we leave them is going to be in. I am cultured, so any major events in the world of arts might interest me (and I am not talking about who is going to bed with whom in Hollywood). I am not really into sports - so please, only major major major news here.
