Well...I’ve been involved with the D/s lifestyle for about 5 years and have had a few purely D/s-oriented relationships – each of varying seriousness and length.
For me, D/s relationships entail far more than the sexual components most people associate with the lifestyle.
Basically, I believe the bond between a Dom and his/her sub touches upon one's baser instincts and involves a level of emotional, physical, sexual, and mental intimacy that is virtually impossible to realize in most, if not all, “conventional” relationships.
Submitting oneself to a Dom and, likewise, taking responsibility for sub's physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, requires patience, respect, and honesty. Once forged, this connection leads to a level of intimacy and satisfaction that is beyond comparison. Only with forthright communication can each partner release all of their inhibitions and discover repressed thoughts and feelings long buried in their subconscious.
