Say goodbye to flakes!

This is too late in my life to launch a legitimate crusade, but a crusade may be warranted, perhaps more so in the Golden Bear state than anywhere. For the social disease itself is named after our home state:

The "California Commitment."

You know the type who RSVP to a dozen events with the intention of attending one... possibly. You know who I am talking about, the new interest who stands you up at a coffee house, the couple who invent a lame excuse in the last hour to attend a your elegant dinner party two weeks in the planning.

Sometimes life does throw us the curve, and we are forced to cancel. We get ill. There are emergencies, and as a community, we support one another where we can in these instances. Responsible and caring people, people deserved of this support will cancel before the event is to take place, and as long in advance as possible.

I will repeat: Organizing any event, whether it be for two or twenty, requires an investment of self and other resources. Standing someone up without appropriate notice, beyond insulting and inconvenient to the organizer, is rude to other guests who may have looked forward to the synergy and dynamics of the event. Let's stand together and cause this pestilence to wither through non-acceptance.

Just say no to flakes!

Should someone insult you by failing to provide respectable notice of cancellation, never again invite them;

Just say no to again a known flake's request to attend.

Tell the flake that they are no longer welcome in your, or any other community.
