The Arts, D/s and me --
Movies --
The movies "Tipping the Velvet" and "Fingersmith", both based on the
books written by Sara Waters, stir many aspects of what I would enjoy
in a D/s relationship. I like the thought of being a servant or
personal assistant to "My Lady". I like the thought of providing
domestic service to Her and I find good manners, like standing up when
"My Lady" enters the room, very exciting. I also like the idea being
part of a greater hierarchy in "The House".
In a D/s relationship I like the idea of having protocol. I like the
idea of a "House" with discipline, orders, duties and punishments --
but also, and maybe more important -- love, care, appreciation, and
affection. Ideally, I would obey orders with love, and want to be
disciplined with love.
Theatre --
Among other reasons, I work in theatre because of the dynamic D/s power
exchange in plays. One example where D/s is highly present is in "Miss
Julie" by Strindberg. As a child my favourite musical was "Annie", and
the relationship between Miss Hannigan and Annie was of special
interest to me. I wanted to be Annie, I wanted Miss Hannigan to lecture
and throw me into a closet as punishment. As an adult, I like a variety
of plays that cover interesting D/s dynamics -- ranging from Strindberg
and Shakespeare, to different musicals such as "The Phantom of the
Opera" by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and everything in between.
Dance --
Dance is a language that always touches power dynamics. "The body says
what words can not" (Martha Graham), and D/s is for me largely about
how we use body language, gestures and movements to communicate.
During my first year at college I had a very strict ballet teacher.
While standing at the barre doing plies, my teacher would walk around
with her stick and correct us. I found those classes very erotic -- and
of course I dreamt about what the stick could "do" to us. While I do
not miss ballet classes, I miss my strict teacher -- and my fantasies
still remain.
I enjoy the discipline in dance classes -- to be on time, the warming
up before, the exercises during, and the routines at the end. The
corrections, both verbal and physical, were so much more than only
corrections to me. Dance truly covers one of my D/s needs -- my need to
submit to music, movements and pleasure/pain -- to express emotions.
Life is a journey --
I am investigating myself regarding my predilection -- at the moment I
am mostly interested in women. However, I do not want to limit myself
-- which is why I am open to trying new things and meeting different
people. While I have always known I am into D/s, I'd like to experience
different aspects of BDSM altogether. S/M is of course part of a
desired D/s relationship, but not equally important to me.
I want to explore different kinds of love and relationships -- but
overall, I think I am pretty much monogamous. While I like the thought
of being part of a "leather family", I am not sure if it is something I
would enjoy. However, I am willing to relocate for the right
person/people/life. Again -- I do not want to limit myself in my search
for happiness --
Relationships --
I am always interested in meeting new like-minded friends. Ideally, I
want both a committed 24/7 D/s relationship and a "part-time" D/s
relationship with a submissive.
