About Bertandlaerie
We're a couple that has been together for years, but are just now beginning to explore the vestiges of the BDSM lifestyle. We're undertaking this difficult but wonderful journey together to transition from a vanilla relationship to a d/s structured lifestyle. This is particularly arduous at times due to the speed bumps that we find as we each explore our own respective identities as well as our couple identity. We're both students, so it's difficult to be as involved in the lifestyle as we would like. However, we're working to establish a paradigm that will serve as the basis of our relationship for years to come. We're looking for other couples exploring the same issues we are as well as those who have been successful at navigating the various perils and pitfalls along this road. About him (Bert):
I've been interested in the d/s lifestyle for about five years, but have just recently began to explore these interests with my partner. I'm in the middle of establishing my dominant identity. At times I struggle with the freedom that such a position gives me because it is so contrary to how I was raised. I don't fit the model of the traditional dominant, I'm more inclined to use leadership and guidance than I am brute force. I firmly believe that most of the lifestyle takes place in the space between the ears, and as such, believe that you need to know a person's mind before you can control their body.
About her (laerie):
I am new to the dom/sub community. I fit the traditional female role by being naturally submissive. I live to please, but I do have a hard time with direct commands and control. I strive to be a strong, confident, and capable woman while also submitting to my man, but I struggle with maintaining both simultaneously. I hope to learn how to maintain both of these personas and find true happiness in myself and my life in the process.
During the course of my college education, I have taken a myriad of courses on diversity of sexuality, gender, race, culture, etc., and have become very interested in the social constructions of sexuality and gender. Unlearning the "rules" of sexuality that I was brought up with (especially since it was paired with Catholicism!) is proving to be quite difficult. I grew up thinking sex and sexual urges were shameful and wrong and have struggled with merging sex with love. I have been sexually repressed my entire life and letting go to find out who I truly am sexually is long overdue. I have only very recently came to terms with the fact that I am bicurious (wish they listed that as a sexual preference!), after denying it for the past five years or longer.
I am lucky enough to have a loving, supportive, accepting, and patient man in my life who is willing to guide and help me through this process. I view our d/s relationship more as a complete partnership than the "traditional" or more widely accepted definition of d/s relationships. It's also more than just sex to me; I want to succeed in this lifestyle in order to better OUR lives. In essence, I don't want to be "owned", but I want us to belong to one another. |
