On the BDSM front, I do not have as much experience as I could (though maybe I underestimate myself), which is in no way to imply I am a complete novice. I was in a master/slave relationship for around 2 years, but have come to the conclusion that it isn't really what I want at this stage in my life. Commitments of that order are more than my schedule can permit. In terms of what I am "looking for" then, I'll say I'd like to meet a female sub who is around my own age. I very much enjoy being dominant, but the last thing I want is to absolutely control another person's life, so independence is essential. I'm also not overly keen on people who have no life beyond the scene. 'Reality' maybe a hegemonic concept with little to recommend it (beyond guidance councilors and economists) and fantasy may lie at the heart of experience, but without seeking a variety of experiences we become very boring indeed. As far as I'm concerned being boring is the only sin out there. I'd rather spank a Republican (come to think of that sounds like a lot of fun) than someone uncommitted to finding, cultivating, and reveling in their own originality. My non-BDSM interests at the moment are glorious Balzac, early American folk recordings, MP Shiel, CoBrA, Durkheimian sociology, William Blake, French Romanticism (especially utopian socialism - phalansteres will cover the countryside before the decade is out!!!), writing theory for non-existant art movements, and comic books. I read French, am teaching myself German with a bit of success and like learning the word for 'spank' in as many languages as possible. From my perspective these are things I enjoy that compliment my overriding goal of using my imagination to stave off the stultifying effects of a world where there are already models for nearly every minutiae of our desires. So for me acts that fall under the BDSM heading are things I do and get off on. They are not a lifestyle, they are not the foundations of an identity as a certain type of person (though I'll happily answer to 'pervert') |

I'm thinking about undertaking a substantial revision of my current profile. While I do not disagree or depart from anything there written, I am not unmindful of the fact that I come off as I bit of a pedantic, self-absorbed asshole. That may be attractive to certain persons, and in fact is not entirely distasteful to myself. But I am beginnig to wonder if I would get more attention if I presented myself in slightly more direct and forthright terms regarding my bdsm interests. 'No compromise' has ever been my watchword in most endevours, but reality may make me a bit of a coward even if conscious seems disinclined at present. I propose a substantial streamlining of my profile, with those qualities that might here be deemed extraneous relegated to this journal. Any thoughts oh eager followers? |

Major changes are underway in my life. After spending the past 17 years a student, I have retired, for the time being anyway. That is to say, I've just graduated college. Now I can pursue more stimulating endevors. |
