I imagine myself as a sailor on a warship at sea in the 1800s. The sailors are expected to accept the Captains order without question. The sailors are strong, capable men with courage and they are proud to serve. They understand what they signed up for. Yet every once in awhile, one of these sailors may step out of place and disobey the Captain. Perhaps the sailor felt there would not be consequence. But we have all seen the movies and and know what happens when he disobeys the Captain. He will be disciplined. He may be locked in the brig, tied to the mast and lashed, locked in the stocks, have privileges taken away or assigned unpleasant tasks. This was up to Captain to decide. Its possible the Captain did not enjoy disciplining his sailors, but he did understand his role and duty as a Captain. If the sailor seemed to enjoy the discipline, the Captain would say adios and throw him off the ship because he was more effort than he was worth. So really I am seeking my Capitaness.
