I haven't made a job out of cruising here, but I did see a couple of people local to me and sent them a note saying "hi" and asking if they'd like to have coffee someplace public. I believe actually talking to people is much more satisfying than chat rooms. Nobody replied. At first I was a little uneasy about that. Being ignored is the saddest form of rejection. But, thinking it through, the contacts were significant to me, because I sent only a few. On the other side of the screen, though, these people might be getting hundreds of emails a day. They long ago started discarding everything that doesn't meet specific narrow criteria. We all like to think we're something special, but I can't think that, "Hi, want to meet and talk," really stands out in the crowd. You know, though, some of the best - and hottest - friends I've ever enjoyed had previously passed me over in the crowd at some event. I suppose if it's meant to be, it'll happen. |
