Not too long ago, I started sketching as a way to relieve stress and love it.  My favorite topic is trees.  While the basic forms of the trees are really good (in my opinion anyway), I am still learning shading techniques.  My preference is pencil though I experimented with pastels, watercolors and even clay.

It is very relaxing to sit down with a blank page and just start.  Sometimes I have an idea in my head for the form but it usually changes as it takes shape.  Very rarely will I include a background.  It is the act of drawing and filling in the tree and its branches that I find relaxing.  I tried drawing people but the technical aspects of proportions for faces and bodies was not relaxing as I am a bit of a perfectionist.  Like I told someone, "You can't fuck up a tree" (unless you are a monkey)
