Outside of the bedroom, I work full time, dance, bicycle, read, perform in and view plays, watch movies, attend jazz performances, play Scrabble, cook, travel, study Judaica, visit art museums, do volunteer work and walk. I've danced in dance studios regularly for 9.5 years and take dance classes. My favorite books/authors include Kavalier and Clay, Bel Canto, Middlesex, The Botany of Desire, Snow, Yeats, Joyce, Borges, The Story of O, Shakespeare, The Wind Up Bird Chronicles, Torah, Ender's Game, Snow Crash and The Time Traveler's Wife. In terms of movies some of my favorites are The Sweet Hereafter, Being John Malkovitz, Blade Runner, Brazil, An Inconvenient Truth, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Battle for Algiers, Munich, Minority Report and The Secretary. I do not own a TV but enjoy watching DVD's on my computer. I have calluses on my palms from bicycling. I'm a member of the SF MOMA and recently joined the De Young. I have also traveled widely and lived in London, England and Jerusalem. I've hiked in Israel, Scotland, England, The Trinity Alps, Canada and all over the South West. I love SF's blend of ethnically distinct neighborhoods, topographically rugged parks and proximity to places that at least feel like the wilderness. That's why I settled here.
I have a liberal political view, read the Op-Ed page of the New York Times almost every day and am environmentally/health conscious.
In terms of kink, I am a Dominant. I had a nine month relationship with a submissive. We still communicate and occasionally see each other but not to play. I have been in the scene since May, 2004 and have attended numerous classes and events on the subject. Several subs have happily volunteered to have me practice what I learned on them. I've also been bound, caned, flogged, etc. This has given me a perspective on what the bottom is going through. In addition, in February, I took a male Dominant intensive taught by pro female Doms. Much of the intensive was hands-on and the pro-Doms would critique the student's technique, energy and awareness. There were normally three teachers and six students. I learned that being very present during play is at least as important as technique. The Zen meditation I practice helps me to have that essential quality of presence. The feedback during the class was often harsh but I learned a great deal and am glad that I did it. The feedback made me a much better Dom. I take D/s and BDSM fairly seriously. I don't take myself very seriously though and when I make mistakes, I readily apologize. I also know that my sub can decide to stop submitting at any time. I always play with safe-words, use condoms, wash my toys, respect limits, etc. Also, I'm a member of The Society of Janus and had a mentor during my first year in the scene.
