 living in new york city was one of the hardest things i have ever done ,leaving it was harder there are two standards in nyc days .the first starts waking up to your teeth chattering in august beacuse you passed out with the a/c on battling the humidity that started to feel like it might swallow you whole .or maybe its feburary and even as the snow has caked the sidewalks with a thick layer of black ice ,you woke up thrusting your window open to let the cold air flood your sauna apartment in which the radiator cannot be set to anything less than the doppleganger of that august temperture
once your body neutrilizes you wipe the sleep from your eyes and force yourself out of bed. a quick decision to forgo cleanliness or alertness in the form of a large coffe is necessary beacuse there just isnt time for both -you decide the caffeinated option throw on some clothes and head out the door .you make your way to the subway via a quick stop at the bodega for a large cup of what could be mistaken for a dirtywater ,as you rush down the subwaystairs hearing the roar of the train ,you feel for your metro card and thank god there it is a quick swipe and you'll be just in time to pack into the human sardine can pulling up but as you enter the turnstile the metal bar does not budge .
and those dreaded words "insufficent fare" rear their ugly heads now at the ticket machine you press the buttons as fast as you can ,praying that it will read your credit card on the first swipe,but as that yellow piece of plastic drops into reach ,the doors of the train suction together and your chariot pulls away into the dark tunnel you havent gotten to work yet ,but you get the idea the rest of the day is filled with lunchtime meetings or high maintenance low tipping drinkers flakey freinds or maybe the solitude of your tiny expensive apt new york loves to kick you when you are down its a gurantee,but new york makes you stronger,the other new york will be told later enjoy the day |
