I feel compelled to comment and offer a little advice. I’m an amateur photographer so I make no guarantees and a real photographer might disagree with everything I’m saying. It’s just my opinion, but I’ve seen quite a few photos and here are my suggestions:

Color
Cool, vibrant colors are more appealing and energetic than a washed out look. Also, be careful the photo isn’t shaded too red, green or yellow. A little contrast and brightness are great. You may not have any control over this if you take your pictures straight from the camera. A photo editing program works wonder with colors, brightness and contrast.

Lighting
This is simply being able to see the subject. Outdoor photos have an advantage here. Inside, open the curtains and let some natural light in. Try using the flash, but also experiment with turning it off. Take a lot of pictures, they don’t cost anything so snap away.

Background
Find a suitable background. I think this is the single most important thing you can do to make an acceptable photo. I see a lot of pretty models photos ruined because of the pile of dirty clothes or trash piled up behind her. You must have one nicely decorated and clean corner in the house. Use that. And for heavens sake, don’t take a picture with kids or the toilet in the background!

Composition
If you’re posting straight from your camera, be especially careful not to cut off your arms or other important body parts when taking the photo! Try to center and get everything in the shot. Of course a nicely cropped photo looks great to get in tight, just give it a little thought.

Pose
This is one of the two areas that the model has some control over. My best advice is to find some photos on this site or others that look good to you. Copy their poses or adjust to your own style. After awhile, you will know what works best for you. Be creative – just don’t be dull. And please, please, please for the love of God don’t pucker up!

Wow Factor
This is one of those things that is hard to define, but you know it when you see it. It’s the most obvious part of a good photo. You might describe it as beauty or something else striking in the picture. It’s a real bonus if you can get some wow factor in your photo. You know, you can tell when someone is wanting to have their picture taken and when they don’t. WANT to be there.

Camera Phone
I know a lot of you are taking pictures with your phone. You can still get a good picture. There are apps that will let you have a timer on your camera. Try setting the phone on the bookshelf and setting the timer. This way you can get an angle that’s easier to look at. Experiment and upload the best ones. Lighting is critical with a camera phone, so again, let some light in. Do you have a webcam? Sometimes that works better, as you can move back a little.

Posting
Tall skinny photos are going to look out of place when posted. The picture should be wider than it is tall, so it will fit on the page a little better. A square picture will work good too. When you post the pictures, don’t post every picture you’ve ever taken. Please don’t be redundant and post several of the same pose. Be discriminating and post no more than 2-3 with the same clothes on, then take some more tomorrow. Of course disregard anything I say if you aren’t wearing clothes.

And while we’re talking about posting, it’s a good idea to let a friend proofread your profile and check for typos. This is especially true if you’re in a foreign country and you’re trying to scam American men into falling in love with you.

One More Thing
YOU can take some good pictures. Put a little effort into it. Even if you’re using a camera phone, they can still come out good. Smile and be sincere. You’re beautiful!
