BDSM is more than just a lifestyle; it is a legitimate 'Culture'. As such, we have rites, rituals, ideas, customs, skills, and art forms. We as a community should be making a conscious effort to communicate, transfer and pass along to succeeding generations the fundamental traditions of our culture. As well, their associated rites, ritual, ideas, and customs. This community owes its most recent founding roots to the post WWII Gay Leather Community (known today as Old Guard) thanks to the internet, it has grown into a much larger and widely segmented community. Each of these segments i.e., Leather, 1950's Household, Gorean, Rope, and so on, view the BDSM Culture in their own way. Regardless of which, the fundamental principles remain steadfast. Though, each may view the culture from a different perspective, how we live within our cultural community, the ethos of Honor, Integrity, Accountability and Respect are the cornerstones from which our community must be built.
