I grew up and spent my formative in a sexually repressive environment. It was with this mindset that I got married at a young age as it was better to get married than to "sin." Shortly thereafter I was exposed to a few different things while taking a sexuality class. I began to wonder if monogamy was something I believed in. I approached my wife but it was verboten and I put it out of my mind. A few years after that my wife expressed an interest in spanking and light kinky fuckery. A couple years after that my wife approached me about allowing me to have a girlfriend. There was of course reciprocity, but she insisted that she wasn't interested and had no one in mind. I reluctantly agreed after she seduced me, telling me this would never break us apart. A few months go by and I discover that she, all the while saying she wasn't interested and never did anything, she slept with someone and had carried on an emotionally with someone else (it never reached the full blown sex, but he fingered her a few times, because they couldn't find the time, hence the other guy). She had wanted to be with this guy, which is why she approached me about opening the relationship. Long story short I did end up sleeping with someone months later. Shortly, thereafter we divorced.
Since then (the last 5 years) have been mostly celibate and unattached.
