So did anyone happen to notice that news articles that ALT and the entire Friend Finder Network of web sites had been penetrated and their membership records stolen.  When the alleged culprit was being interviewed by the media he bragged that he was targeting government and professionals for blackmail and he was pulling in over $1000 a day?

The NSA in cooperation with DHS is assembling a cross-indexed facial recognition database harvested from all the images they can scrape from online sources including facebook, pintrest, etc....   Experts estimate that the software will only be 75% accurate at best.... 

While many folks feel that the days of having a 'compromising' image online or otherwise in the media are over, not everyone can be quite so cavalier.  Why else are all those men and women trying remove images they posted or gave to a boy or girlfriend from the net or  from "revenge porn" sites.  It still goes beyond embarrassing, and in the great majority of professional fields especially, it CAN AND WILL END not just your job, but your career as well, and possibly, your family.  (Thankfully, I don't have that issue!  They are all perfectly happy I a Dominant.)

There are long time, dedicated, leather folk who attend the Folsom Street Fair and other events, but only with full masks or hoods because of possible repercussions in their personal or professional lives.  (A few years back I loaned a beautiful young maso-subbie from a very traditional family a full hood because she was terrified of being outed if someone saw the photographs being shot by any of the hundreds of photographers gathered around one of the booths.)

I know too because I have friends and family who, while they know about my kinks, they also have security clearances and sometimes I get interviewed by dour, humorless 'Men in Dark Suits' about them and my relationships with them.  One thing I wouldn't dare say is 'Oh, Yeah, I met him/her at a leather bar/event/munch, etc.'   So, unfortunately, it is not merely my security I have to worry about, but their careers as well. 

Paranoid? No, not once you have been though a security screening or two. Then you try to minimize your exposure and your paper and digital trails in general and also because, among other things, it is perfectly legal to be fired from a job, denied housing, expelled from school, etc., for your kinks.  I was a journalist for a while. I know how information or photos like this can get used and twisted. Remember what happened to, for instance,  ex_Congressman Anthony Weiner, or any number of other ex-candidates, ex-office holders, ex-clergy or ex-educators.

So, if you feel you must pass on my email because I do not have a personal picture, I do apologize for that. I would rather you feel disappointed or angry at me than have a friend or family member loose his or her career because they know or associate with someone who is just 'a bit outside of the sexual mainstream.'

The Job Profile
