Well, folks, another Thanksgiving is upon us. I could not believe I had all this 4 hours of awesome entertainment, cocktails, and a meal for just $175! Sheesh! A 2-hr dinner cruise with a dj on the Spirit of Norfolk costs that if I want to have more than a couple of cocktails! This is by far a better deal and a night you won't ever forget! I stood today surrounded by more than 400,000 occupied hero resting places, many of them accompanied by their spouses. It was daunting to stand and view them, row upon row visually endless. The Patriotism was palpable, wrapping itself around my spirit with each droplet of mist clinging to my skin. Standing there in the midst of greatness, honor, self-sacrifice, and national history, my spirit reached out to their ghosts in gratitude. I was awed by the sea of head stones rolling across 624 acres of cascading terraces. I felt small in their company, guilty for having only served as a military brat. In front of where I stood were an ocean of pristine white headstones with the massive silvery shoots (representing the streams of three jets soaring skyward) of the Air Force Memorial in the background. Behind me, many, many more of the marble memorials running to the retaining and security walls of the section of the Pentagon that was targeted in the 9/11 attacks. I couldn't help wondering if anyone in that building ever stepped outside and contemplated the huge responsibility of their jobs to respect the lives given for this nation and our culture and way of life since the 1860's and all the lives currently on the line in defense of other nations whose populations hate us and want every last one of us dead. An hour was not enough time to ponder and answer even one of the questions of it all. I wish my dad and his brothers were still living so I could talk to them and discuss all the thoughts, feelings, and fears for the future of our nation with my personal military heroes.

Going to Arlington today to honor those who earned it.
