It took the reading of a very happy boy's profile to bring these thoughts home to me. In the course of my life, in both what I have experienced and what I have searched for I have come to embrace 4 basic concepts, three of which were taught to me by the military and the fourth I learned the hard way. Honor, this quite possibly is the best form of pride in existence. A feeling of not only belonging, in its way, but of belonging to a group that everyone looked at with hope and trust. Duty, not only is it the art of doing the right thing by those who look up to you, but doing it for those who spit at you and holding steady on the course until it is done. Loyalty, this should have special meaning for everyone regardless of their life's story. To stand by someone, to help them and to protect them no matter WHAT, even if "what" is your own end. Compassion, a term often spoken of but rarely invoked. To hold out your hand to a fallen brother or sister whether they be your lover or someone you absolutely despise and help them to stand again. Remember these words because each one will play an important part in your life if not already.
