This scene is obviously very much rooted in power... but am I wrong to think that power is not the only thing to matters when it comes to this sort of relationship? More than anything else it is about authority, and there is a difference between the two. Power is just exerted on another, because it can be while authority is something that is accepted and affirmed by the other. why is it accepted and affirmed? Because the person recognizes that the source of authority is legitimate...
... do I sound like a philosophy textbook? I don't mean to, thankfully, as I am probably not convincing enough in this setting anyway. It is just that the dom/sub relationship can and should be so much more than a dom man degrading their sub because he can. It really is about trust and bringing a woman into a relationship that she wants to be in. It means that when she is in it she will accept it because it is the relationship she ought to be in.
