I always believed Freud got it right except you need to go back further than just your childhood. You need to go back to your past lives as well.

There is nothing in our culture that beckons or challenges us to strive for a higher plane of non-material fulfillment. Not that we would purge our material and physical pleasures or joys but to reach, as well, a development of the individual's talents and abilities: our senses of curiosity, wonder and awe, as well as humor, playfulness and the absurd. As a society, don't you think we need to nurture the individual's pursuit of understanding, wisdom, and the appreciation for the good and the beautiful - as opposed to just specific, factual, technical and practical knowledge. It is neither fostered in schools nor in the media. In fact, we are bombarded with images of material goals.
