I first got into the scene (real life scenes) in the summer of 1997 through the summer of 1999, when I first moved to Philadelphia, after college. Although, I was very interested in the scene many years before that by way of BDSM media (books, magazines, local publications and videos). Most notably Shadow Lane's early media (Shadowlane and Eve are now my friends on and I am pleased that I had the opportunity, through , to finally tell them how much their early material influenced me), Redboard (anything with the great Kym Wilde started it all for me, the "On the Edge" and "Virgin Kink" Series for starters) and (last but not least) British media (particularly early videos from Bizarre Video and the British releases from California Star), hence the reason for my user name, which I have used since 2002 on other fetish and kink sites. It is hard to believe, looking back now, how communications within the scene were possible at all, before the first fetish sites began to appear on the internet (i.e. anything circa 1996 or before). I also attempted, with a great respect for the individual woman's personal choices and limits, to incorporate certain aspects such as role-play, light/erotic impact play and erotic spanking (fairly basic bdsm to start) into earlier vanilla relationships (i.e before my first true scene experience) and more recent vanilla relationships with varied degrees of success. Some of the women, that I had vanilla relationships with, were much more open to exploration and some were fairly opposed to exploration, especially the social conservatives at my undergraduate university. But, just for clarification, I never attempted to scene outside of any vanilla relationship (or non-vanilla relationship within the fetish community without mutual consent, for that matter) at any point in time, even if attempts at incorporation into the vanilla relationship were not as successful as I would have liked. My first true introduction to real life scenes was at The Royal Castle in Philly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70F3KWJtbEs AND http://theroyalcastle.wordpress.com/about/ During that time at The Royal Castle, it was generally customary, but not obligatory depending on who you were doing a scene with, to start out with switch sessions and scenes, which I really enjoyed. Although I have not switched in a long time, I am not opposed to doing so again or in the future. I was somewhat, but not entirely, inactive in the scene for awhile, prior to relocating to MA recently. This was primarily the result of moving to various locations where there was not much event activity or a large kink or fetish community. First, the two different places where I went for graduate degrees did not have much of a scene. Second, while my most recent city (i.e. DC) before moving to MA did have a scene, I rarely got involved due to my employment and how busy I was at the time. Although, I did make occasional trips to The Crucible http://www.the-crucible.com/front.htm However, since I have moved to Massachusetts, I have enjoyed attending as many events as I can and I am pleased that New England, in general, has a great community. I have reclassified my role from Dom to Top for a general description, because I have been considering the differences between the two terms and how they may fluctuate within an individual, like myself, depending on the specific play partner, even though they are sometimes used interchangeably. I assume, at least for myself, that true doms could probably never just top, but tops can dom under the right circumstances or with the right partner. I kind of like the definition from the Wikipedia page so I quoted it below, because even people who have been in the scene for many years could maybe disagree between themselves on the matter. "Agreement on the exact meanings of the following terms is far from universal. For example, the function of tops and dominants is similar, and, in many cases, overlaps, but while the terms are used interchangeably in some discussions, there are differences between the two." "The top is the actor within the BDSM context who applies to the bottom partner(s) the techniques of a sexual, sensual, and psychological activity: flogging, bondage, spanking, or humiliation. The dominant controls the BDSM scene or relationship, exercising authority over the submissive partner(s). A dominant who exercises control over a large percentage of a submissive's day-to-day life, or within a formal framework of rules and rituals, is a master or mistress." "The functions of top and dominant often intersect, where the top is the dominant, but this is not always the case. Someone who is "topping" may be doing so at the request, or even the direction, of a bottom partner; in this case, the bottom is the dominant partner. A top who acts within this kind of relationship dynamic is sometimes called a service top. A bottom who has dominance over the activities or the relationship is said to be topping from the bottom, even though she is really exercising dominance from the bottom." Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_(BDSM) .... I suppose there is no need for proper "Bluebook" citation here (I am saying this, of course, in a jesting manner). If that makes any sense to those that have read this far, remember how annoying and tedious that is?.... **Other Interests** Outside of fetish and kink interests, I am a music and film buff (primarily, but not limited to, Sci-Fi, Horror, Action, Martial Arts and Documentary genres). As far as music goes, I have been interested in and appreciate many genres and I am extremely interested in the history and evolution of music, such as "who influenced who" across various genres. I was a jazz musician and instrumentalist in middle school, high school and college. I have also been an avid ska musician and fan. I could write a list of my favorite ska and jazz influences here, but I don't think either of us have all day. However, I will say that British 2 Tone Ska was a major influence, hence another reason for my user name on . I occasionally played in pubs and taverns in Philadelphia and other local places in Pennsylvania doing ska covers with some ska/jazz improv originals as a trio group, with a guitarist and a bassist. When I played in public, I was (and still am) a brass (i.e. trombone) instrumentalist with vocals in between horn riffs, but I also play guitar and (very rarely but enjoy playing drum kits) just for my own satisfaction and appreciation. Unfortunately, my drum kit has been packed away at a friend's house in PA for some time. I also love Metal of all kinds and was involved in the hardcore music scene, when I was in high school, with a band that used to practice in my basement of the house where I grew up in Pennsylvania. My influences at that time were bands like Sick of it All, Biohazard, Judge, Youth of Today, Minor Threat, Agnostic Front, Murphy's Law, Gorilla Biscuits, Mucky Pup and pretty much everything on Revelation Records & Dischord Records and most stuff on Victory Records. The list could go on and on............... If you took the time to read my entire profile, feel free to PM me to chat about any common interests, either kink/fetish or non-kink. I will always respond to conversational messages of similar interests.
