Some, I think, are collecting data for college class or some other project they are working on. The questions I am asked make that rather obvious. Even though I may be suspicious of the motives of someone I am talking with, or I have no doubt that it is a scammer of some variety I am speaking with, I often engage in the conversation anyway. It is amusing to me, and I guess I am just bored enough to let that amusement continue until I get bored with the banter.
