For the most part, I don't take sex too seriously. To me, it's something that two (or more) people should be able to talk about openly, joke about, and explore without fear of judgement or criticism. I believe there are two sides to every BDSM relationship. There is submission in daily life, and submission in the bedroom. They're somewhat independent -- just because you like to be submissive day-to-day doesn't mean you like to be tied up and spanked. On the contrary, just because you like kinky, rough sex doesn't mean you want to submit 24/7. For me, this all starts with good communication and knowing each other's expectations. Master, slave, play partner -- doesn't matter. You need have an honest, down-to-earth conversation about what the other person wants. For the most part, I prefer to keep stuff in the bedroom and fairly vanilla otherwise. However, I've done 24/7 relationships before and they can be fun with the right person.

The value of communication and chemistry cannot be understated. BDSM is based on trust, and trust only comes through knowing the other person, them knowing you, and being able to talk beyond saying a safeword. If I wouldn't enjoy having lunch with someone, I wouldn't enjoy anything else, either.
