The time has come to retire macysub...as you can see in my journal entries (check them, your email might be featured there!), she will be missed and dearly so. And while the emails featured in my journal entries may not be the best examples of bdsm wisdom, they certainly were enlightening to me.

A lot of you reading this can probably acknowledge that you spend more time than you should online. While online chats used to represent the fringes of social interaction, they now are mainstream, such that people often don't feel comfortable talking with a stranger, unless they can do so from behind the shield of their computer monitors. That shield works quite well-you can say just about whatever you want to whomever you want, in a consequence free environment.

Many if not most of the users of this website are dysfunctional “participants” in the bdsm lifestyle, but contributing to this is the dysfunctional design of the website itself. Take into consideration that:

1. It's a free and anonymous website, so it costs $0.00 to create yet another profile, hijack photos from someone else, and get your rocks off. With so many people starved for attention (both male and female), creating a collarme profile with a picture of a young piece of ass is the perfect solution.

2. Users are told when other people have last logged on; whether they've last looked at your profile; read your mail; added you as a friend; an admirer, etc....all of this makes people who have nothing better to do with their time, continuously log on to the site to see if anyone's contacted them; read their mail, viewed their profile, etc...and when they discover that no one has, well then it's time to peruse the constantly updated list of users sorted by log-on time. In other words, the website is designed, and continues to be designed, to keep people logging on.

3. That list of users sorted by log-on time is really more evil than people give credit. First of all, it gives people the incentive to continually click the “Home” button so that they remain at the top of the list, and have the best chance of attracting the attention of others. Secondly, the constantly updated list provides users with an ever changing array of “new possibilities”. You know you've stayed on here to see a name you've not recognized before pop up on the list...not to mention names on the list of new users as well.

4. There are two ways to send emails—one is after viewing someone's full profile, and the other is the “send user a quick note” option. That second option is a invitation for insincere emails, as it doesn't even require the user to actually view a person's profile, which is really an essential first step on how you make the initial determination as to whether or not you are compatible with someone else. It's as if the designers of this website are actually trying to make it easier for people to send thoughtless and time-wasting emails to other users!

So what can possibly be the reason behind all of these design “flaws”? Why does it seem that collarme.com has been specifically designed around the superficial needs and wants of online masturbators and people starved for the attention of others? Because this is the best way to get as many users as possible to click on and view the banner advertisements. We've all done it; I've never done it intentionally, and I'm sure that most if not all of you have clicked on those banner advertisements unintentionally. So you see, it's actually to the benefit of this site's investors to have desperate users, fake profiles with pretty pictures, and emails sent to each new female user ad nauseum because all of that keeps people logging on. And now with the myspace-ification of this website (do we really need a friends list and an “inner circle of friends” list here???) I seriously doubt whether the owners of this site really care whether anyone gets any true benefit from using this site.
