| 65 YO WM, married (no romantic relationship with wife); discretion is important. My philosophy: I do not believe in sadism / humiliation, which I define as taking pleasure from inflicting pain on another. Instead, I believe a good dom helps the sub increase pleasure through the judicious use of nerve stimulation, which can include pain. Pain and pleasure come from the same nerve endings and thus are different parts of the same spectrum of nerve stimulation; likewise, mental domination, including an appropriate use of fear, can enhance excitement and the attainment of pleasure. Appropriate pain (including restraint) enhances sexual pleasure.
A good Dom/Sub relationship requires the sub to submit totally, and requires the dom to direct and control the relationship in ways that protect the sub and enhance the sub's pleasure, always directing the relationship in ways that are uplifting and not downgrading. Submission generates pleasure; total submission generates ultimate pleasure. But the dom must not take unfair advantage of the partner's submission; it should be a loving and nurturing relationship, one submitting and the other dominating, both doing it for the satisfaction of the other. A sub is no less human for being a sub; there is human worth in being a sub, the same as a dom. That said, the sub recognizes that all pleasure comes from total obedience to the dom.
