the sun beat mercilessly as i pushed the mower across Miss Matron's front lawn. Sweat dripped down my brow, into my eyes, blurring my vision. Sweat saturated the back and armpits of my white cotton T-shirt, causing it to cling to me like a second skin. 

  i licked my lips, tasting the salt and tossed my head to free my vision from my sodden bangs, but i never stopped pushing that mower. Out of the corner of my eye, i saw the front window's curtain shift...She had been watching me! i buckled down and pushed even harder, till it was complete. 

 With an uncharacteristic hesitation, i approached Her door and softly rapped. It swung open instantly, jarring me alert. My sun blasted eyes were unable to penetrate the interior darkness, but Her quietly commanding voice took control of my legs, "come inside boy" She instructed, Her tones as cool as the air-conditioned climate i could feel awaiting me. 

 my legs propelled me forward, i felt a hand glide ove my thigh, fingernails raking the denim of my jeans as i entered Her house.
