7/16/2011 2:57:19 PM: Today is Saturday, though it is still basically a work day for me. Understand, I'm not complaining, I like what I do. I normally spend from approximately five in the morning till ten or eleven at night working on some facet of my paddle business. Be it working on the website, doing advertising/networking, shopp. ing for more wood, designing or creating paddles. I'm always always involved in some function of the paddle business.   I was extremely fortunate to find some rediculiously gorgeous Cocobolo, which I scratched all the money together to purchase (and it was EXPENSIVE). It's the wildest Cocobolo I've ever seen that is still stable wood. I spend hours on end, online and on foot looking for the most wild grain patterns I can find for any given species.   I have invested a lot in my shop tools and they serve me very well. I love having the right tools for the job, it makes the job much easier, with that being said, it still takes me hours to create each paddle because of the pillow shape I give them, along with the fact that I sand down to a 4,000 grit as opposed to most that sand down to 220 grit. After that, I move over to the polishing wheel.   Today, I will likely spend the rest of the day working on my networking and getting my website up to date with available paddles. I do my whole website on my own, so that gives me complete control over what it looks like and how up to date it is. I'm currently saving up in order to add a very nice drill press to my list of tools, not to put holes in my paddle heads (because I don't), but to put holes in handles if someone wants them, and to put holes in the knife handles for my hand made dowels to go through. With a good desktop drill press, I'm ensured a good straight hole.
