Bad manners come at several levels. Don't simply ignore people and expect them to 'take the hint'. Adults don't deal in hints. It's rude. "Deleted Unread" is even worse. "Deleted Unread", when in fact you have peeked into the email by hovering over it, is appallingly rude. It's also lying. You should be ashamed of yourself. Of course, that's all true in spades if you were already corresponding with him, but decided to walk away without any explanation.
All right. It happens. Some stranger sends you an email that you don't want. He's polite enough; clearly he has read your profile (if any): but he fails some test or other. Wrong age, location. sex, orientation, interests ... something like that. Should he have known that? Have you actually said that you don't want to hear from (e.g.) men, or people over 50, or doms on some other continent? No? Then he has put time and effort into writing to you, and you owe him a courteous response. It could even be a one-liner: Thank you, Sir, but I'm not interested. That at least tells him that you have read what he wrote. It's simple good manners. If you don't write back, he's left guessing: did CMe lose his email? did you delete it by mistake? If he's really interested, he may write again. If your inbox is swamped, then why not say so, publicly? Of course, you can set up filters to redirect unwanted emails to your Bulk folder. But that's your private business; people won't know about it, unless you publish it.
