When someone recognises that they're an alcoholic, they take steps to mitigate whatever it is that makes them different. You're not likely to get taken out for a drink, for a start. When someone recognises that they're a sociopath, the same applies. Just because I'm going to have trouble recognising you as another human, doesn't mean I'm going to bludgeon you to death while humming "I'm Singing In The Rain". On the other hand, you have to know up front that I have no qualms whatsoever about treating you as less than a person. It's hardwired into me. Unless I make a conscious effort to treat you as society expects, then you're going to be treated like shit. You've been warned. Anything after that is your fault.
