We're Master A and Slave S or Andre and Syren. A MARRIED COUPLE (Hmmmmmm....now why is that capitalized, probably because it's a very important fact about us!) who have been married for almost 11 years and together for nearly 14. Speaking of careers...Andre is the VP of Technology for a nationwide company and owner of of a video Production company and Photography/Web Design firm. Ok lets clarify this as well....LOL...when we say Andre is a Switch, it means he likes having the tools of the trade used on him. He really likes pain, bondage etc. But is NOT a slave! THE NAME OF OUR LIFESTYLE:

Our lifestyle, like the P/people in it has a wide diverse variety of names. A few are:

And it has subnames like:

It came to me though, that only a couple truly explain what the lifestyle is about.

Yet the name most often attached to Our lifstyle is probably the one that We shouldn't have associated with it:

Lets brake it down:
B - Bondage
D - Domination
S - Sadism
M - Masochism
Bondage - this is just ONE aspect of the lifestyle, by using this in the name We might as well call it BFCNBWFDSM or
BondageFloggingCroppingNeedlesBladesWaxFireDominationSadismMasochism
That would be a little hard though for the Nilla's (vanilla public) and Novices to get their toungues around. So why talk about a "toy" in the name?
Domination - This talks about Dominating and controlling another, but nothing is said about submitting (no..not masochism you'll see why in a moment). So Shouldn't this part be D/s for BD/sSm...Hmmm I can see a problem here with people not understanding the two 'S'.
Sadism - I don't know about many of you, but I have on file EVERY piece of published literature by the Marquis De Sade where this term comes from. That makes sense you say, anyone in the lifestyle should. To this I say...WRONG!...Sadism, in it's true meaning and what it actually means by being a take off of the Marquis name is something We try NOT to do. It's true meaning and the way the Marquis describes it is ... Getting sexual gratification through the non consensual torture of another individual...Mainly because the Marquis preferred UNWILLING victims for his sexual gratification...Now maybe I'm wrong but Aren't We all trying to promote the CONSENSUAL torture so to speak? By having sadism in there it appears that all the people in the lifestyle are CONDONING NON Consensual torture and sex.
Masochism - This term is supposed to mean the submissive or slave portion of the lifestyle, but there are many People in the lifestyle who are NOT submissive but they are masochists. Masochism is the enjoyment of receiving pain and torture. But you don't have to be submissive to do this.
So I summerize it this way:
B - Bondage - A single toy/aspect of the lifestyle when there could be any single other one used or none at all.
D - Domination - but yes the submissives should get equal billing here.
S - Sadism - Unwilling victims Non consensually being raped and tortured for anothers sexual gratification - Probably not how We want the public to see U/us.
M - Masochism - Not meant as the descriptive for the submissives as others enjoy pain as much as SOME submissives do so it's stereotyping submissives.
My solution is this. Personally, I think the lifestyle should have one of three names. And I'd like...part of my crusade in the lifstyle, if you agree to have you pass these thoughts along to others.

PE - Power Exchange (A TPE would be a version of this)

The lifestyle isn't all about pain. It's about communicating, trust, respect, humiliation, degradation, Training, giving guidance, expectations, What a Dom(me) expects the subs to do and what the subs can expect from the Dom(me)s. It's about Showing people a path to follow or helping them live out a fantasy which may or may not include pain. So why should pain be two of the four main components of the most often used name? Its about giving and receiving.

A Dominant and submissive have a power exhange that lets them live out not only their fantasies, but a different way of life from the nilla public. In the power echange they can experience untold forms of mental and physical stimulations. Pleasure and pain but the undercurrent here is it's all a power exchange.
So, What I will be doing in not only the book I am working on, but on the new website is trying to promote a true descriptive name for the lifestyle. And truthfully I believe this is the best. It's short, to the point and lets the nilla public know what the lifestyle is actually about.
