The following is a piece about BDSM I wrote a while back. It has it's flaws and is debatable even by myself but I thought it was an interesting take on things.

From a psychology point of view of BDSM and domination and submission, it all resorts down to or primal animalistic instincts. The male, like in most mammals is the dominant of the two genders, having an alpha mentality combined with hormones and a natural instinct to continue it's own bloodline he dominates his partner(s) in forceful and, in most mammals, quite rapey fashion.
As humans we've evolved from the animals but the instincts are wired deep in our genetics and come forth when our hormones act up. As we evolved as a species, our dominant genes and need to dominate and control our partner evolveed too. Using humiliation and degradation as a way to demonstrate dominance and control, evolving constantly, becoming more extreme to show they are the true alpha. Partly as a result of us trying to evolve as a society and repress our instincts. We become sadists as another way to demonstrate dominance and to discipline our submissive partners.
On the flip, the need to submit and serve and please is also a deep rooted hormonal genetic instinct for survival. The desires to be used and abused and degraded are results of the repression of our primal needs and evolution of society.  Our societal attempts to repress and evolve past these primal animalistic urges has only worked as fuel for the evolution of the extremes we go to to satisfy these needs.
Like with many mammals we are a male dominant species, and we have operated as that for a long time with few exceptions. But again a societal need to evolve past these primal instincts began a notion that the female doesn't need to be the submissive partner, and incubated a hormonal switch in dynamics, forcing the weaker males to feel inferior and submissive towards females. And females, being nurtured in a society evolving as equals began feeling more dominant in some cases. But deep woven in the fabric of our genetic code is the fundamental primal dynamic of male dominant and females submissive. Further attempts to evolve past it will only continue to work against itself and continue the progression of us into new extremes.
