A NOTE on STDs (sexually transmitted diseases):
I recently talked to a young girl who has HPV (human papilloma virus) and cervical cancer (she's 22). This is the 4th young girl I have met that has cervical cancer from HPV-18 or HPV-16.
More than 70% of sexually active people are positive for HPV.
Most strains show no outward signs of infection. Some strains cause deforming genital warts.
HPV-18 & HPV-16 have recently been linked to oral cancer, so you can get it by oral sex!
They have also been linked to anal cancer!
You won't know you have it unless you are unlucky enough to develop cancer.
Meanwhile you are spreading it to all your partners!
Even worse, condoms are only partially effective since HPV can be transmitted to other areas of the genitals.
There is a vaccine, Guardasil, which is now available for both girls and boys ages 9 to 26. It protects against HPV-16 & HPV-18 which cause cancer and HPV-6 & HPV-11 which cause deforming genital warts (they are pretty ugly).
Most insurance plans now cover the vaccines and there is a program for people who can not afford it. It is also important to realize that the vaccine is only effective if given before exposure to these 4 HPV strains.

 I went for a 3 mile hike up a nearby mountain yesterday in the 95 degree heat.
