I was cruising through journal entries and came across HIGHWYMAN's entry on references made in profiles to the "doormat" phrase. I got a kick out of it and asked him if it was ok to "blog his blog". He said it was.
Several years ago I had joined this site and had considered starting a journal. I started to read other journals to get some ideas. I repeatedly saw the phrase, "I am not a doormat". It is pretty cliche and has become quite meaningless over time. It has been repeated on most BDSM reading material on the internet and for a good reason. However, there was a sub that had a rather unique perspective on her profile. She said, "I am a doormat. Don't tell me that it is wrong." She said it much better than that but you get the gist of it.
I thought that it was the greatest thing ever. She went against the grain and said that the community did not have the right to tell her what her limitations should be or what was "right". In addition, she was brutally honest with herself. That is a journey.
I know. I have some doormat qualities. I am not jumping up and down with joy with this little discovery. I see no reason to deny it either. It simply is.
