Today was an interesting day. We always work the ranch on the weekends from morning til afternoon. The plan was for Rabbit, my brother, to do the inside wiring on the first building and to install the A/C so that we can start living there permanently. There is no interior walls yet or plumbing so its a lot of work in progress. While he worked on that, his wife, who has a degree in equine science, was needed to check on the health of the horses before going back to the parent's house to bake a chocolate cake for Grandma. I was in charge of rounding the horses and managing the two teens (18 and 16) for labor.
Once we saw to the horses, I had the boys practice their swordplay with foam covered swords to keep them busy while I was helping Rabbit in the new house. Well.... Rabbit bought the wrong wiring so we couldnt do the wiring of the shed to the power post. About the time that he is cussing and I am laughing, we hear a truck pull up and its a guy named Marty that has a wood chipper we needed to rent. So the new plan was clear land. Rabbit grabbed the chainsaw and I watered the boys up and we went to it.
No matter how fast we worked, Marty and his partner Pete were always a step ahead of us. We wore those boys out til they had to sit and then I dragged lumber alone while Rabbit cut. We went through 2 tanks of gas and wore the chainsaw dull. It was about 3 hours of constant work. At the end, the boys were off in the shade of the shed, aka the first building, while we men were sitting on the back of the truck. I said, "All I need now is a cold beer and a hot woman!" Marty laughed and said, "I got a cold beer but that other thing you're gonna have to work on!"
It was an awesome day! |
