my dad was "mr k," call me "josef." ha ha. now that i have put you at ease with a little levity we can proceed. it was either kierkegaard or cary elwes in the princess bride who said, "life is pain, highness. anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something." since the world is an almost unimaginably bleak and nightmarish wasteland, it's probably best if we learn not to take things so personally while also resolving to kick god right in the nuts should we ever be face to face. if god is never available, the pope will do. or any of the dudes who claim to speak for him, really. (don't think you're safe, dalai llama. i've never cared for you.) anyway, i guess this is the part of the profile where i tell you what makes me tick. as a precocious child in the reagan era, i grew up quietly convinced that the world would come to a quick, tidy end via nuclear annihilation long before i came of age and so i never learned how to do much that is useful. i cannot fix a car, or kill a bear, or even see a spider without screaming like a little girl. i'm a fairly good basketball player, i used to be kickass at mortal kombat at the arcade, i'm an obsessive reader and i have a penchant for memorizing dialogue from teen comedies of the 1980s. socially i am an introvert who overcompensates by cracking a lot of jokes and peppering my conversation with references to nietzsche and kanye west. sexually it's complicated--i used to say "i'm a masochist" then add a long list of qualifications. now i just say, "i'm wildly attracted to sadistic women, and the things it might amuse them to do to me that i do not want done to me." my favorite novel is anna karenina. my favorite food is aaloo paratha with mango chutney. my favorite quirky synthesizer genius is thomas dolby. i am wearing grey and pink argyle socks. note: i look pretty together in my profile picture but in the interest of full disclosure i should be clear upfront that i'm really a slackeur de majeur and a total weirdo.

As of tonight, my favorite South Korean teen dramedy series is Boys Over Flowers, which starts off somewhat slowly in Season 1 but really builds to an eminently satisfying denouement and then starts off strongly again in Season 2. I am, incidentally, high as hell which may or may not explain my sudden enthusiasm over South Korean television programs.

For my first post in Episode One, Season One of my journal, let's watch the video for Depeche Mode's Strangelove together. The exotic leather clad model is crazy hot, and I totally learned to dance by watching Dave Gahan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIrm0dHbCDU&ob=av2e
