Fakes are unfortunately a part of life on internet. It's the anonymous part of sitting behind a computer screen that allows people to take on a different identity without being seen in real life. Every now and then I stumble across one here myself. Ususally I see them quite quicky, not always. For identifying the fakes, one helping hand is the collarme fakewatch at blogspot. Google for it, as a direct link here seems to not be welcome. While it is not a guarantee that the profile you are looking at is real or fake, it does provide useful indicators.
For me, someones credibility is much improved by proving their own identity, and for that a photo and a piece of paper with a note on it the simplest and most effective. So if you really want to prove you are real, this is a good step. Admitedly at the time of writing this entry I haven't done that. I will correct that in the next few days.
In the end, every site is as good as the people who run and use it. Cooperation between the two parties can make a site great for everyone who is serious. I hope cm will improve in this area. |
