Goodbye Maurice Sendak your stories will live forever in my heart.
He passed away. I remember his book all to well as a child. Im not sure I even understood it but it was my one of few books I coveted as a child. It was all things weird and all things I wanted to be, different. Later at my brief stint with Sony in San Francisco I was able to see him in passing. The whole office was at crazy level red, Loony level red. His name echoed all month long for his visit because there was an attraction being set up there with his characters. Just his name created energy as so many celebrities do, but when its a particular one that you grew up with its different. To have such an effect on so many people is an accomplishment. Its a success in good communication. Getting it right however abstract. Teasing the mind to think harder and search for your meaning however individual it is.
So thank you Maurice, I will forever cherish you and your legacy. |
