I'd never considered the possibility that someone would deny that even slaves have needs. It seems so elementary to me. Slaves are human beings. All human beings have needs. Therefore slaves too have needs.  
In my management of my slave I've always told her that I know she has needs beyond pleasing me. I've also made sure she knows that I want to make sure her needs get met. A person whose needs aren't being met is an unhappy person...and displeasing to be around. So, if I want my slave to be pleasing, I'd better make sure her needs get met.  
One of the ways I make sure that happens is to constantly probe her for what she's thinking or feeling. She's also under instruction to tell me if she's aware of needs she has that aren't being met.  
Of course, that doesn't give her cart blanc to do whatever *she* wants to get her needs met. It's still up to me what I do with my knowledge about her.  
To sum up, frankly I think it's just sticking one's head in the sand to say that a slave's only need is to be pleasing.
