Inspector’s Pay
London Police Forces; The Metropolitan Police and City of London Police,along with those British Transport Police officers stationed in London,recieve in excess of 6 grand extra each year in addition to the rates shown above,excluding overtime.
The pay scale for an Inspector ranges from £41,034 (£42,834 in London) for a newly promoted Inspector to £44,508 (£46,320) for an Inspector with three completed years of service in rank.
Flexible Working Conditions The normal working week is 40 hours on a shift basis. Shift patterns vary between forces. All ranks below superintendent are entitled to two rest days a week and compensation if required to work over those two days. They are also entitled to leave or compensation in lieu of public holidays. It is possible to work part-time and flexible hours. Pensions Our pensions scheme offers generous benefits, with the option of transferring previous pensions to our scheme. City of London Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner
The City of London Commissioner will be paid £137,000 with effect from the 1 September 2004, (£133,000 from the 1 September 2003) and the Assistant Commissioner should be paid £113,000 with effect from the 1 September 2004, (£110,000 from the 1 September 2003). The higher figures take account of the general 3% increase from September 2004 agreed with PNB. These pay levels are subject to future pay negotiation with the PNB Chief Officers’ Committee.

ANNEX A

The following agreements reached in the Federated Ranks Committee of the Police Negotiating Board are submitted for the approval of the Secretary of State for the Home Department, the Scottish Ministers and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
1.Pay
To increase salary rates for federated ranks as set out in Annexes A, B, C and D.
2.Dog handler’s allowance
To increase the annual rate of this allowance from £1,815 to £1,869 with effect from 1 September 2005.
3.Competence Related Threshold Payment
To increase the annual rate of this allowance from £1,032 to £1,062 from 1 September 2005.
4.PSNI Allowance
To increase the annual rate of this allowance from £2,655 to £2,736 with effect from 1 September 2005.
5.Temporary non-pensionable supplement for inspectors and chief inspectors in the PSNI
Consideration of the temporary non-pensionable supplement for inspectors and chief inspectors in the PSNI has been deferred until the next meeting of the Federated Ranks Committee in October 2005.
