More police mergers reinforces North-East case

Fresh announcements by Home Secretary Charles Clarke about more police force mergers reinforces the case for a strategic force in the North-East. Further updates from the Home Office show that the government is keen to see the existing 43 forces in England and Wales merge into 24 strategic forces.

Officers investigating the murder of a South Shields man have re-traced his final movements in a bid to catch his killers. Lee Phipps, 31, was found dead outside a house in Cleadon Hill Road on the evening of March 2.

Charity chosen for golf tournament

A charity which provides hospice care for adults and children across the region has been chosen as this year's good cause for the annual Northumbria Police Pro-Am Charity Golf Tournament. The annual event, which has raised over £350,000 since its inception in 1986, gave £15,000 last year to the Percy Hedley Foundation.

'See It Right' success for Northumbria Police

The Northumbria Police website has won the 'See It Right' award from the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) for the third year running. The award means that the site has met the very high standards set by the RNIB, covering all areas of accessibility, not just visual impairment.
