Just returned from a long weekend in Traverse City with my extended family. Enjoyed the time and very much enjoyed my first time kayaking. I definitely want to try that again!

A friend, Hookerclown, and I are both looking for Playa Slave services at this year's Burn. HC has her application info on her profile. My requirements follow:
Provide afternoon pampering to include:
1. Mix and serve me a perfect gin & tonic while providing afternoon service.
2. Give me a playa pedicure (lemon juice to cut the dust, full peppermint foot wash, and a foot and calf massage daily.
3. Use damp cloths and a fan to help cool me and encourage me to take an afternoon nap.
4. General camp cleanup assistance to keep my space pleasant.
Other duties that may be negotiated:
1. Accompany me to Spanky's Wine Bar to participate in the "reddest butt on playa" competition.
2. Possibly accompany me to the Temple of Atonement or the bondage wall at Spanky's and be on the receiving end of my paddles and canes.
3. Back massages.
4. Leg shaving.
5. Service to the male dominant that will be accompanying me to the playa under my supervision.
6. Meals or drinks served to you in dog bowls.
7. Fetch and carry services while on walks around the playa.
8. Acting as furniture while visiting friend's themecamps.
9. Providing entertainment -- dancing, stripping, other unique talents -- to entertain me and my friends.

One of my new favorite places on the web is the She Makes the Rules discussion boards. The level of real-ness in the conversations is impressive. And the women are diverse and seem like they'll be a great group to get to know at least virtually.

I stopped by Como's last night for a drink with a friend. A lovely group of T-girls were leaving just as we were sitting down. Their self confidence and lovely girlyness was terrific. Out and proud, being who they are -- love it! I caught their eyes and gave each of them a nice smile, hopefully they felt good when I did.

|
|
|
Had a terrific long weekend. First night in a lodge in West Michigan, the next camping on the Lake Michigan shore, and the last two day's in Chicago. Busy good times with my friends! Tons of rain but otherwise good.

It's a hot hot hot day today! Makes me wish for a boy to wave a huge fan to cool me off while I sippy an icy drink and read a book in the shade.

6 weeks until I'm in the desert again! This week I booked my flights to Reno and hotels for pre and post Burning Man. Worked out my driving plan and truck rental with my friend and paid for my shipping. Phew...
Now I need to make my little sculpture piece -- a flaming Statue of Liberty Pig. Clean and oil my bike and do a little touch up paint on that. And order my "aluminet" and do a test setup of my new shade structure.
I'm getting excited about going back for my 13th Burn. Almost no "work" on the schedule for this year so it will be a real vacation and FUN time this year.

What an absolutely perfect summer Sunday morning. I woke up lazy then spent the morning reading in my lounge chair in the shade of the mulberry tree. Enjoyed a delicious simple breakfast and a fabulously juicy plum. And, soaked in a quiet morning. I think everyone except me and the birds were sleeping today! So perfectly quiet you would have had no idea you were in the midst of the city. Ah...

Happy Day after 4th of July! My dog spent last night protecting me from the neighborhood fireworks barrage for about two hours. She wouldn't let me out of her sight and kept herself positioned as much as possible between me and the windows and doors to keep me away from the big booms. Some of them were incredibly loud and even shook the house.

Need to make something sweet tonight to enter in the annual 4th of July Bake-off at work tomorrow. I'm thinking a berry trifle since it's mostly just "assembly" not actual baking.

Phew busy busy busy at work. I feel like I'm barely keeping up this week. I also had to ask what day of the week it was today since it felt far later in the week than a Tuesday.

Looked up dates for fire works displays around the area tonight. I find it bizarre that so many are held NOT on 4th of July. I'm going to sound like an old lady for a moment... You know, when I was a kid fireworks were Always on the 4th of July, isn't that how it's supposed to be?!?
Of course, this means I could get to see fireworks multiple nights this week. That could be good.

The nearly daily rains are making my lawn grow insanely quickly but it remains too wet today to mow. I wonder if the rest of the summer will be this rainy or if we're due for a change to hot and dry for July?

Took the day off and spent much of it resting. Waking up from an afternoon nap to the sounds of a thunderstorm was particularly pleasant. It certainly has been a stormy summer so far.

The John Hiatt concert was great fun tonight. I was dancing in my seat.

One of the sounds I dislike in summer when I need to sleep is the sound of cats in heat crying or fighting outside my window. Disturbing!

This has been a wonderful weekend. Last night I celebrated the long worked-towards opening of a community sculpture project that I've helped coordinate. Three years to get there but in the end ALL worth it! The finished project is gorgeous and it's a major stepping stone in using art to revitalize Detroit.

Is it really that difficult to sign your name when you write a note to someone? Based on 4 out of 5 examples this morning I would think it must be incredibly difficult. Thank you to M for proving that it's at least possible!

Another very long but good day. Off to bed for another night of restful sleep with the cool night air coming in my window. Just heard the distant sound of a train, wonderful!

I'm enjoying tonight's shift towards cooler weather. Perfect night to sit outside for a bit and just enjoy the world going by my front door. There's the sounds of a street basketball game down the way and a the occasional ice cream truck. A pretty good night in the city.

I'm watching a show about the US space program on Discovery channel. I find it amazing that 12 people have walked on the moon. If you had the opportunity to leave this planet would you? Hmmm...

Holy Moley it's hot out there today. Been trying to clean the house but taking lots of ice water and iced tea breaks. I think I may give myself a "free pass" on the rest of the house to do list this afternoon and go shopping instead. Going to the Jimmy Buffett concert this week and I want something a tad more tropical than my usual outfits to wear. : )

Phew... Busy!
Life has been very very busy the past month and more and won't be slowing down until near the end of June. It's all good though. Building my final Master's project piece this month. Sold tons of events for work. My sister is responding to chemo and her health is improving but still requires lots of hospital visits. And I had a chance to travel a bit including a fabulous camping trip to the Texas Hill Country -- gorgeous!
Life is good. Just not on the net much at the moment.

Refreshing rain showers this morning. My yard is way too dry so I'm glad to see them.

Scheduled to work the next 8 days straight so I went grocery shopping tonight and stocked up on easy to grab fruits & veggie snacks since I know I'll be too tired to cook much and I don't want to resort to not good for you food due to that combo of stress and tiredness. Then made a really tasty quinoa salad with nuts, mint and dried fruit. I think I'll be living on that plus frozen Kashi dinners, I'm in love with them at the moment!

So tired my entire body is vibrating. Spent the day driving my Sister back and forth to the hospital. 300 miles total today. Plus a full day in the hospital with her. On very little sleep. Wow... haven't been this worn out in ages. But, totally worth it.

1. to be fed raspberries while I'm lying comfortably in bed
2. to drive the Amalfi Coast road in Italy
3. to convince my neighbors that even though we live in "the ghetto" that's no reason there should be trash on the sidewalks

Ouch! I wore my birkenstock sandals for the first time since last summer today and promptly gave myself two blisters on my insteps. I felt them starting but I was out and had no option but to keep wearing them. ouch ouch ouch! dang it.

I'm very glad it's the weekend! Looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow then getting some yard and housework done. Things have gotten far too messy around my house lately and it's time to get them back in order. Tonight I'm going to pour a small glass of scotch and sit outside for a bit to enjoy the remaining wonderfully warm evening. Then I've got a book to read. It's a darn good night.

Woke up to the sounds of a car accident just down the block this morning. Two carloads of teens going to the local high school, driving too fast and ignoring the yield signs. Thankfully no one was injured just crunched cars and a tough time ahead telling Mom & Dad. I still remember my dumb teenage car accident... ugh. Not a time in my life I wish to re-live.
Took some extra time sipping my coffee after that sitting out at my patio table and enjoying the sounds of the birds. Yet another gorgeous morning!

I pulled out my patio table and a chair this evening so I could eat my dinner outside more comfortably. I also pulled out my gas grill but haven't hooked it up yet, perhaps tomorrow. The only downside was realizing just how badly I need to spend a weekend this Spring cleaning out the garage and taking a ton of stuff to charity or perhaps having a garage sale.

I'm reading Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts book. I think Mama Gena has taken a tour through my thoughts and put a number of them out in print. In the introduction she writes, "A gratified woman is someone who constantly experiences the abundance of life itself and the privilege of life itself because she knows that wherever she is, just by the force of nature that is her being, anything is possible. And that is a wonderful place to be."
Life is good. And life is better when I actively seek pleasure. Thank you Mama Gena for the reminder!

Lazy lazy lazy today. Haven't done a thing I was supposed to do. Instead I woke up super late (after being up super late I suppose that's to be expected) then ate pad thai while watching Westerns on TV. Then got distracted with a book.
My to do list is utterly un-done today.

Phew... just got home. It was a great party. My feet are killing me, I desperately need a foot massage after wearing those boots all night.

Off to buy a ton of pastry for tonight's event. Then seeing a friend who is visiting from Colorado. Then doing event set-up. I've got a busy day ahead but it's a good one. Even with the soggy weather I'm smiling.

I bought an awesome 1960's era faux fireplace. Picked it up tonight and I love it! It suddenly made my house feel like my home. Yeah!

Yesterday's presentations went very well. All in all it was a good day until I was headed home and noticed I'd developed a bad tire problem. I had loaned my car to a friend for a few months and he clearly didn't do any upkeep. Talk about frustrating! After a calm but forceful call to him last night he'll be at my house this morning to take the car to the tire shop. And he'll be the one sitting there while they fix it so I can go to work. Argh!

Bought a chocolate fountain tonight. I'll be using it this weekend when I set up a pastry table at an event. It was fun to think about a lovely sub feeding me strawberries dipped in the chocolate as I stood in the aisle at Target tonight. ; )

I find that reading about other's relationships and experiences is both good motivation and comfort for me. |

The wind is bringing April in this year. A few branches down with these 40 MPH gusts. My pine tree has had lots of damage over the winter, I think I'll have to have it checked to see if it needs to come down this year or if it can last a few more years. |

Spent a very good weekend with my Sister. She's on day 4 post chemo and was doing incredibly well; well enough that we went to the symphony last night. She feel asleep briefly after intermission but the percussion in Sheherazade woke her right back up. It's good to celebrate life together. |

The friend that I helped move this week gave me a new kitchen table set too. Now I can seat 4 instead of just 2 in my kitchen. Well I'm sure I could seat at least one more if he was eating out of a dish on the floor like a good puppy. ; ) Ah my wicked thoughts come up even while setting up furniture. |

I've been helping a friend move this week. His gift to me for the help was his washer and dryer, a big upgrade over my current set. Yesterday we managed to get my old set out of my basement and the new dryer in, but the washer was just too much... too heavy. We stashed it in my garage and will come back to it later this week. Hopefully on a day we haven't spent the full day lifting and hauling boxes, books, mattresses etc. it will seem less daunting.
I'm excited about the upgrade though and hoping the new set uses a bit less energy. Now, I need to upgrade my refrigerator and I'll be super happy.
Ah the life of a homeowner... excitement over new -to-me used appliances! I think the teenage me would have sneered at this form of excitement.

Reading Instigator puts me in a good mood. I don't plan to do 80% of the things written about in the mag but I love the open fun informative and damn sexy attitudes of the writers. |

Busy and so far a very good week. Sold a big event and have a proposal out on another that looks like it will come through. Great news especially in this economy!
My sister finally starts chemo tomorrow. She had more setbacks this week though. Fingers and toes crossed that things go as well as possible for her this weekend.
I think I need to take a bit of a break from even searching for my Prince. I've met a few really good folks here and I want to stay in touch. But, my life just doesn't seem to be cooperating with giving me time and energy to focus on this piece of my life. Work, family, my mentorship student, friends, house, even my pets have all needed a lot of time and effort the past many months. I'm feeling a bit emotionally exhausted and I think that is the single worst state to be in to try to find someone here for a long term meaningful connection beyond friends. Hmmm.... much to think on...
More snow on the way this weekend. Helping a friend move. Nuts.

Full moon with a lunar eclipse tonight. Expected temp is 3 degrees overnight but I'm still hoping to bundle up and watch at least part of it. 10:00 -- 10:45 PM is the expected peak time to see it tonight. |

Busy day, back to work, and my sister's surgery went well. All in all I'd say it's a good day. Now I'm working on a birthday gift to give a co-worker tomorrow. |

Slept 11 hours and woke up with a voice (yeah!), not sneezing, and with the lingering ache gone from my joints. That's good since my sister has another surgery scheduled (last minute) for tomorrow. I couldn't go see her if I'm at all sick so I'm glad that it feels the bug has past. |

3rd day home sick. I couldn't talk this morning but I'm feeling better as the day goes on. I had to cancel a few meetings today but there was no point going to work when I couldn't talk.
I'm not sure what people do with themselves if they're home all day. I may fantasize about being home just being lazy when I'm at work but reality is I'm bored. One of my friends came over and dropped off gingerale and soup. That was a good distraction.
Lots I should get done since I'm home but I'm still tired. Guess I'll spend some time reading. |

Sick day #2 just to be sure I don't spread my germs back to my co-workers. I decided a short walk would do me some good to get the gunk out of my chest and head. I spent about an hour walking at Maybury State Park. Mid-way through the walk I rested on a bench just listening to the sounds of the squirrels in the trees and a bird in the rushes near the lake. Near the end of my walk I found a stream that was just starting to melt, the sound was fantastic. Gorgeous day! I'm ready for a nap but I think the walk did me some good physically and mentally. |

Concerts were great especially the cello player Saturday night. He was playing a cello made in 1694, pretty amazing to think that it has survived all of those years and is still in use. Not much we make today will have a lifespan like that. |

Celebrating birthdays with my Mom & Sister this weekend. Symphony tonight, Garrison Keillor "Prarie Home Companion" concert tomorrow. Thankfully the roads look pretty clear for the drive to the "Thumb". Cold cold cold predicted for tomorrow so I've packed lots of layers. Should be a good weekend just wish I wasn't running so far behind on my house cleaning; have to finish that before the dog sitter arrives and I get on the road. |

I've become a bit of a political junkie this year. It's fun! Not sure how many hours I can stand to watch the Super Tuesday coverage tonight but I am really interested to see how both sides races turn out tonight. |

Cooking is such great stress relief for me. Tonight's dinner was pork, bok choy, and dark greens stir fried with chinese 5 spice and a bit of tamari. Delicious! Now I'm indulging in a blood orange, gorgeous color. |

I'm smiling tonight. Just got off the phone with my sister and she's had a very good weekend. First weekend in a few weeks that she hasn't ended up in the ER at some point. She even made it to the cabin and got out for short snowmobile ride with her husband. It's a good night! Now I hope this upswing continues. |

Metro-Detroiters -- Don't forget the Dirty Show is coming up! Last year I helped run a painting project on-site at the show but this year I'll be just attending for fun, no work. A few friends have entered pieces in the show this year so it will be fun to see those on display. |

I was happy to sleep in this morning. Now I'm enjoying a cup of coffee with a splash of Bailey's and planning out my "to-do's" for the day. It's nice to take things at a relaxed pace.

Snow fall didn't seem to be as much as predicted so my shoveling was pretty easy this morning. And I was able to work from home for the first few hours so I could avoid the morning rush hour mess. Good day all in all but I was fighting a case of "the sleepies" this afternoon; I think my body wants to be in hibernation! |

Emotionally exhausted tonight. I'm hoping for solid sleep tonight and to wake refreshed and rejuvenated in the morning. |

On nights like this when I spend a long time talking to my sister being upbeat and there for her I wish that I had someone sitting next to me to give me a good hug.
I think I'll go bundle up and walk the dog around the block before I head to bed. Maybe that will clear my thoughts and give me a lift so I can get some much needed good solid sleep. |

Darn it, my sister's blood clot is growing not shrinking as hoped for. She's on tons of meds, back in for observation tonight. She's still tentatively on for more cancer surgery Feb 14 but that may not be possible if this doesn't improve soon.
In the meantime, we spoke tonight and are going to the symphony and to a Garrison Keilor taping together the weekend of Feb 9. I think it helps to put positive things on the calendar.
I wish there was more positive and effective things I could do now. Worrying sucks. |

My Burning Man friends are planning a night out at Shadow Bar (formerly Ice) in Hamtramck tomorrow night. Assuming my sister stays out of the hospital (looking okay for now), I'm planning to join them. Should be a fun night! My friend Rabbit will be performing, she usually does some very hot cage dancing and often some S&M type scenes. |

I realized today that I'm craving some time in the woods. I found a yurt that you can rent at Pinckney State Recreation Area. I'm seriously thinking about picking up snow shoes, packing some really good sleeping bags and spending a weekend there soon. Unfortunately they don't allow dogs so my girl would have to stay home. |

I watched the show "How to Look Good Naked" on Lifetime TV this morning. I wish that all the women I know could watch and embrace the message of this show which is for Women to LOVE their bodies and to learn to see themselves as gorgeous, powerful, strong, and beautiful.
In the first part of each episode the host works with the Woman to listen to and address her body image perceptions. I know that many of us have struggled with embracing all parts of ourselves. Women tend to be incredibly tough on ourselves and on each other's looks. Many women I know have listened to their own inner critic and outer critics and have lost that powerful image of themselves.
In some small way, I hope that this show helps women address these body perception issues. I hope that more and more women can embrace their inner goddesses and walk tall and proud. I've been blessed with the ability to see myself as Hot, Powerful, Sexy, Smart, and Gorgeous and I know that I project that image to others; I wish that more and more women will embrace this power as well and truly deeply LOVE themselves and their bodies. |

I'm trying to corral two loose dogs that are roaming through my neighborhood. They spent last night sleeping under a pile of brush behind my neighbor's garage. I can't stand to see them out and uncared for with tonight's deep freeze coming in. They ate some food from me this morning but then took off. I'm hoping I can get them in to shelter before dark. Wish me luck. |

All in all this has been a good weekend. Dinner with a friend Friday night. Worked all day Saturday then enjoyed our long-delayed holiday dinner with my work team. Spent today just relaxing -- watched a lame Clint Eastwood 1980's movie on cable, read some of my latest book, and just generally "veg'd" out. It felt good to relax today. I came home and decided to cook up a few nights worth of meals tonight. I plan to freeze individual portions plus have dinner made for the next few nights. I've got a chicken roasting and a big pot of beef stew on the stove plus I prepped a stir fry. My dog keeps sniffing the air so I can confidently say it smells wonderful in here tonight. : ) |

Picked up a loaner computer from a friend today, another friend is hunting up a decent price on a power supply for my regular computer and yet another friend has offered to do the work to fix it once I have the part. I love having geeky friends who are willing to help me out on occasion! I think I'll need to bake lots of cookies as thankyou gifts for them all.

This weekend: attend friend's "going away" dinner, figure out and do last minute holiday "to do's", clean the house to prep for dog sitter, finish work pile so I can actually take time off, bathe dog & trim her nails, should get an oil change, tire pressure check & fill, put in window washer fluid, pack for a few days up north, and pay bills. I'm working 11 hours Monday and hit the road at 5:30 AM Tuesday so I've got lots to squeeze in today and tomorrow. Hope everyone is staying sane and happy during this busy season!

Today was a very good day. We made 20 baskets of food, toys, hats and gloves for families in need with our high shool mentorship students. It feels really good to give back even just a little bit.

I wish I could declare today a snow day for myself and take the time to stay home and make my holiday treats for friends and family. But, that is not to be today or this week really. I'm working days + evenings most of this week. I might be able to take Friday off, we'll see.

My neighbor did me a huge favor today and used his snowblower to clear most of my sidewalk. I still had to do a bit and deal with the drifting snow, but it was a terrific gift! Sunset tonight was amazing, it tinted the snow a gorgeous shade of peachy pink for a few minutes. Wow!

My friend TimTV is performing at Wicked Detroit tonight. His fire performance, bed of nails, glass walking and shibari skills are all very good. For those attending tonight, enjoy! I'll be bouncing around the city in my floor length velvet Santa dress tonight instead. Snow for Santarchy! Perfect but I think it will make the bus rides a bit more challenging this year. One of my favorite nights of the year is coming up -- Santarchy! Last year we had nearly 500 Santas here in Detroit. Mayhem and joy. Booze and fundraising for food banks. A sea of red and white. Santas of all kinds. We descend on Detroit December 15.

I am deeply happy tonight. Got to chat about Italian art... ah lovely! Some day I will travel to Italy and see Titian's Venus of Urbino in person at the Uffizi Gallery and then eat a lemon gelato and stroll around Florence hand in hand with a lovely gentleman in search of the perfect espresso. Then drive the Amalfi Coast road. Then tour the ruins of Pompeii. Yup, much to do! And that's just one country. I still have so much of the world to see. Amsterdam, a cabin on the Welsh coast, British Columbia, Alaska, Norway or Sweden, Patagonia, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, sleeping in a yurt in Mongolia, taking a train across Siberia and a return trip to Australia. I don't dream small... But, I also want to spend lots of time in a simple cabin in the north woods too and just gardening at my little house.

12 hour word day, most of it "on the floor" so the pile of desk work isn't done. Looks like I'll be working a few hours tomorrow morning before I hit the road. On the good side, that should let me avoid the worst of the expected snowfall, or at least have the roads cleared, for my drive north.

I am refreshed and happy. Going to meditate then off to bed. Early and long work day tomorrow. None of my packing is done yet, guess I will wait to leave for my Mother's until Thursday. They're predicting snow though, I'll have to see when it's best to travel north and how tired I am tomorrow night.

Just made two no-bake desserts to take to work tomorrow. My oven is broken so my "baking" is rather constrained at the moment so I resorted to coolwhip and pudding shortcuts. Recipe number one is Creamy Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars courtesy of the Cool Whip website. And, number two is something I made up on the fly to use up what I had on hand, Pumpkin Orange Ginger Trifle. The little tastes I snuck of both as I was putting them together were good. I like to take in dessert or treats every once in a while to thank my team.

Not only did I learn how to play Scrabble tonight (fun!), I was also given one of the best belated birthday gifts ever -- custom made applewood smoked bacon and an awesome diamond crystal coated non-stick frying pan. I've coveted this pan for a year. I was shocked my friend gave it to me tonight, he'd told me he had a "small" gift for me. That, my friends, is not small! The chocolate and tea that I gave him was small... But I think he was just as pleased as I was. Very good night.

I'm declaring lawn and leaf mulching season over for the year! I put my mower and the last of my lawn furniture away this afternoon. Now I'm headed to a friend's house to learn how to play scrabble. Should be fun.

I don't have a closet in my main bedroom area so I use a rolling clothes rack. The rack collapsed this morning when I was hanging up my clean laundry. Picking up a pile of jackets, tops and skirts was a really clear reminder of just how much I own... probably too much. It's hard, I keep a professional wardrobe for work plus a somewhat different casual wardrobe plus cocktail outfits for the evening events I work plus a few fun clothes. And, my Mom trained me to be a great bargain shopper so I love to hunt. But, as I'm putting the rack back together, I plan to sort through my clothes, perhaps more can go to the donation pile.

Finally! Went over an hour without coughing. I feel tons better, still not 100% but much improved. I think I might even try swimming again tomorrow. Cancelled my plans for Toronto this weekend, I don't want to "push it" too much as I get back to healthy and I doubt that travelling then going to an all night art party is the best way to jump back in to my life.

Laying down makes the cough worse. I need someone soft and cushy to lean against while I sleep, the dog just isn't cutting it. Grabbing more pillows and creating an even bigger pillow nest to keep me propped up and hopefully breathing more freely. I want to sleep... I want to stop coughing... I want to stop being annoyed by this batch of ill health.

Tried going without cold medecine today, made it through the day but now the cough and horrible congestion are back in full force. Now I'm waiting for the last dose of Theraflu to kick in so I can get some decent sleep tonight. I'm looking forward to feeling back to full good health soon!

NYC was a wonderful break. I helped cater dinner for 800 people Saturday night. Spent Sunday resting and finished reading "The Book Thief" an absolutely terrific book. Sunday night my friends took me to a marvelous Italian restaurant were we celebrated my birthday with champagne and delicious dinner. Life is good!

Renewed my license and my plates today so the legal bit of my upcoming birthday is done. Now I need to plan something fun and actually celebrate. I'm headed to New York tomorrow for the weekend, attending the NYC Burning Man Decompression event at the Queens Art Museum Saturday night. Will be helping a friend cook and serve some awesome bbq to feed the crowd. I'm tired and don't want to finish cleaning or pack tonight. I'd rather just have someone sit and rub my feet with vanilla lotion then fall asleep... ah well... not to be tonight.

Gorgeous drive home from my brunch with my family yesterday. I decided to take all back roads and loved it. My car battery died today when I went to a park to eat lunch. I was happy that it happened today and not yesterday when I was more in the middle of the proverbial nowhere.

Doing a good deep cleaning, haven't done one in a while. Moved some bookcases from my living room to my office and narrowed down my books a bit as I went. Living in a small house has made me more and more aware of the need to keep my possesions pared down and only keep the things I use and truly love. Catching bits of the Michigan game as I work my way from room to room -- finally scored touch down!

Critical budget review meeting this afternoon when I should learn if / how many staff members I need to layoff. Some days are tougher than others. But, I also know that in the big picture of life this is a tiny bump in the road. Staying as focused and positive as I can today.

Did not sleep well last night, stress related work dreams. But I'm tackling the source of those this morning. Working this AM, then back in again for a night event. Should be tired enough tonight to sleep well. I took advantage of yesterday's unseasonably warm weather to clean my gutters, hopefully completed the last lawn mowing of the season and put away almost all of my patio furniture. I'm ready for Fall and Winter. Looking forward to the last beautiful turning of the leaves then hopefully some good snow. I've been dreaming of a weekend in a snowbound cabin lately. Ah... cocoa and fires and snowshoes.

Theater Bizarre was good fun! Good entertainment and some fabulous costumes. My Chicago friends soaked it up, I think TB is one of those "very Detroit" nights -- a little creepy, a little dirty, a lot sexy, and amazing art sets in the middle of struggling neighborhood. I'm darn proud of my friends who help pull it all together. Nearly 800 folks attended this year.

Oh my yes... I bought a new dark red lambskin leather corset top for my Halloween costume. It arrived this morning and it is absolutely lovely. I'll need to wear it loosely for the next few nights so it can start to fit to me and be ready to wear this Saturday to Theater Bizarre. Now I need to find a good set of vampire teeth and a bit of fake blood.

Excellent weekend! I spent it camping with about 100 fellow Burning Man attendees to "decompress". A friend flew in from New York and we spent the weekend making fabulous BBQ and feeding everyone. Awesome burn, great people, inspiring music, great bonfire. I feel utterly refreshed!

Difficult news from family tonight. I'm lighting a candle and wishing for strength for my brother in law. All things will get better and there is much to be grateful for in life even in the darkest moments.

Crazy morning so far -- I was at work from 4:30 AM -- 7:00 AM for some construction work that involved taking down all of our power. When I left the house at 4:00 AM I found a kitten on my doorstep. I couldn't just leave it there crying and needy, so I set up some food and a safe dry space with a towel for it to have shelter. It has a flea collar on so it clearly has a human so I'll try to find the owner / mom cat later today. Need to go back to work at 9:00 to meet my retail team for end of month inventory.

Much better second half... phew! Now I'm off to do some landscaping work on my project site. Hauling dirt and creating berms today. It should be a good way to enjoy the gorgeous late Fall sunshine. : )

A massive power surge took out an electrical substation at my work this morning. We had to evacuate all of our guests then spent the day in the dark. Power came back on at 5:00 PM then I had to make sure all of our systems came back up ok so we can re-open tomorrow. Ugh... long... day... But, my staff and the electricians that got sent in to deal with this were marvelous. So for that I am absolutely thankful tonight.

I'm supposed to be at party this evening but I layed down for a brief nap after my shower and ended up sleeping for nearly two hours. My dog was curled up with me and I was utterly peaceful. Just home from work. Event went very well but I'm tired. Walked a few miles in heels tonight. I enjoy dressing up but I've got to say I don't love working in formal apparel anywhere near as much.

Went back to work today but I'm definitely still not 100% healthy. Exhausted at the moment so it looks like it will be an early to bed night.

Second day in a row home from work. Just ate some wonton soup that a friend delivered. Feeling better but still bone tired.

I gave a guest lecture this morning, first time in nearly a year, it was great fun! It's times like this morning that make me think I should go ahead and get my PhD and teach but then I remember just how much I enjoy actually having some free time.

The night was chilled, the company was terrific, the bonfire was warm, the whiskey was smooth and the waves sounded fabulous! What a great evening! Plus the drive was great fun. I took side roads home and enjoyed the beauty of early Fall in Michigan. I love this time of year where summer slides into fall. I love the apples. I love the crunch of leaves. I love pulling out my sweaters for the season. Ah... I'm happy today.

Whee... not sleeping again, thankfully I work late hours tomorrow so I should be able to sleep in. Instead of sleeping at the moment I've been checking out Halloween costumes. I'll be headed back to the big Theater Bizarre party in October so I need a costume that's warm enough for outdoor revelery but I still want something fun and perhaps a bit sexy. I spotted a new pink light up cowboy hat that I want for sure. That plus some leathers could make an easy and warm costume. But, I'll need to take a pony with me for the evening! I also spotted a great pirate costume that could round out some things I already own and compliment a new pair of shiny black boots I just ordered. Hmmm... what else... oh yes a "Lady Luck" costume with a boa that looked like giant 20 dollar bills strung together. Fun!

Mowing the lawn after 3 weeks sucks. It was a field not a lawn! But the gin and tonic afterwards is good.

I'm definitely still on west coast time. Having a hard time falling asleep before 2 or 3 AM and waking up around 11:00 AM. Hopefully I can get back on a more regular schedule by Monday.

Home from the Burn. Tired, dusty, bruised, scraped, ecstatic, creative, loved. That was an amazing 10 days in the desert.

All trucks hauling my personal and camp gear to Burning Man are loaded and on the way to northern Nevada. Two from Michigan and one from Idaho. All the logistics for our 70 person camp are coming together. Our 3000 pounds of meat for our give-aways are on their way. Our liquor order is placed and ready for pickup in Reno. Tonight: house cleaning, trim dog nails, buy food for dog sitter, pack for my plane ride, charge Ipod, make last art project. Tomorrow: sleep in, shave, pedicure, and off Nevada. I'm happy, busy, and nearly ready.

18 days until I leave for Reno and my 12th annual trek to Burning Man (www.burningman.com). I'm insanely busy with last minute details but happy as could be to be going back. I've got an art project to finish, a few crates to pack, new boots to break in, sewing to finish, and all the last minute details for the camp I'm helping to lead (60 people caming together from all over the country, lots of details...).

Glad that it's raining finally since my lawn has turned to brown straw the last few weeks. Feeling a bit blessed by life at the moment, no particular reason just becoming aware again that I have much to appreciate and much to be thankful for in my world.

Slightly sunburned, lots of bug bites, tired and happy! I love camping! Western Kentucky was lovely but a very very long drive. Busy week at work but at least it started with memories of a great weekend spent floating in the lake and sitting around the campfire. But, I must say I've got tons of dirt still lurking under my nails. I think I better squeeze in a pedicure this week.

I love to camp and haven't had many chances to do so yet this summer. But that changes this weekend. I'm heading down to the Land Between the Lakes national forest outside Paducah, KY. I've never been there but it looks gorgeous with hills, rivers and even a bison preserve. In the upcoming weeks I've got two more trips scheduled. A weekend on the Bruce Pennisula in Canada and my 12th annual trek to the Burning Man arts festival in the Black Rock Desert of northern Nevada. I can't wait to get out from behind my desk and computers and out in the wilds. Camp fires, fire flies and tents are calling my name.

Long work day mostly outside with lots of rain followed by a long drive home. I need a relaxing bath followed by an excellent back massage. Some candles, a glass of wine and someone reading to me while I bathe would be especially nice at this moment.

Another busy work week and I'm working at a festival in Lansing tomorrow so it's not over yet. busy busy busy But, in two weeks I get to go camping for a long weekend so some serious fun is on the horizon!

Went bowling tonight and had a blast. My high game tonight was 87 which is darn good for me. One of these years I'll actually break 100! or not... all I really care about is getting a bit of exercise and having fun with friends. This was a good night.

Yup, just plain hot. I just took another shower to cool down before I head to bed. On the plus side, I adore Lush soaps! I celebrated when they finally opened a store in Michigan it saved me the bridge hop over to Canada.

Just got the first coat of "french pink" paint done in my guest bedroom / meditation room. I love it! It goes beautifully with the "mystique blue" that I have on the other three walls. Still lots more work to do in there but progress is a good thing! Home ownership seems to be a combo of joy & hard work. Sounds damn similar to pursuing a D/s relationship, eh?

Baryshnikov is dancing with the Hell's Kitchen Dance company this weekend. I would love to see him dance but the tickets are dang pricey. So, now I have to decide just how much culture is worth to me. Some days I seriously wish I didn't work at a museum and instead worked a mindless but monetarily fulfilling job so that I'd have lots of extra spending cash for things like this. But, then I remember that I usually feel really lucky to get to do what I do day in and day out. Ah the choices in life.

Thank you to each of you who have messaged me with advice for the sprained ankle. I've been following RICE the past two days along with motrin and it's feeling much better. Thanks for your kind thoughts! I won't be rushing back to yoga poses or long walks for a few days though.

Ouch! Tripped and fell while crossing a ditch to get back to my car last night. Sprained my ankle. Holy heck it hurts! Time for another ice pack and more motrin and attempting more sleep. Looks like I'll be canceling today's massage since I'm in no condition to drive in a few hours. My goodness, I enjoy inflicting pain but I certainly am not enjoying dealing with this pain.

Spending my day off catching up on email and cleaning out the clutter in my closets to donate to a charity garage sale. I love getting rid of excess stuff. I love putting the remaining things in order. This is serious stress relief for me.

Spending a night resting and relaxing at home is a very good thing. I mapped out my coming weekends and will be traveling, working or involved in activities for almost all of them from now through the end of September. Fabulous... but, I need to watch out for my rest as well. So, tonight I'm munching popcorn and watching The Matrix movies again. I find it amusing how my real life might compare to the fantasty that some subs have about Dommes. That comparison helps me realize that I want a long term sub and partner who treasures me equally when I'm "all dommed out" in leathers as well as when I'm relaxed on the couch in my p.j.'s.

Wow, this was a long week.
This is one of those Fridays when I drove home from work thinking about how much I wish that I had a wonderful sub at my house ready to mix me a perfect gin & tonic and rub my feet while I lounge in the shade. Then of course he'd serve a terrific dinner fresh off the grill.
But... still looking for the right one...
So, for now I'll mix my own drink and rest up for a bit before I head out for the evening. Although I do have a friend taking me out to dinner tonight so at least I've got that one covered today.
